The Clam Aquaculture Experience Sharing by Hsuping University of Science and Technology Professionals

Hsuping University of Science and Technology (HUST) is actively promoting the development of smart technology. On December 19th, 2023, a team of students and faculty from HUST, led by the Dean Chen Xian-Geng of the College of Engineering, went to the Hamboyuan Leisure Farm in Fangyuan Township, Changhua. In order to explore the ways to enhance the efficiency of clam aquaculture and to reduce the impact on the environment with scientific management methods, they held a technology promotion and sharing meeting with a theme of “Clam Aquacultural Technology and Application for Production and Traceability.”

The Fangyuan Township in Changhua is a major clam farming area in Taiwan. The township head, Ms. Lin Bao-Ling, recognizes the importance of this sharing session. She emphasizes the significance of clam farming to the local economy and employment, and is committed to improving the technical level of local farmers and promoting the clam industry in Fangyuan Township for longer and brighter development.

At the meeting, Mr. Hong Xi-Yuan, the president of the Aquaculture Association, and Mr. Yang Fu-Jin, the executive director of the same association, were invited to share their views and expectations on clam farming. Local clam farmers also participated the meeting and seized the opportunity to ask questions about the technical aspects in future clam farming, which had leaded the event to more in-depth exchanges and a fruitful sharing session.

According to Dr. Chen Xian-Geng, the Dean of the College of Engineering at Hsuping University of Science and Technology, this sharing session is a significant milestone for the sustainable development of the clam industry. “Sustainable Development: The Clam Intelligent Cultivation and Scientific Management Program” will effectively assist clam farmers with both production and marketing, promoting industry linkage and sustainable management. The University will also continually integrate smart technology with local connections and cultivate talents to promote positive interaction between academia and the industry. Hsuping University of Science and Technology actively promotes the innovation and application of smart technology in the local industry to achieve the core goal of the university’s social responsibility, “Connect to Local Areas and Cultivate Talents.”
