The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival will start on February 8th next year. The lantern display zone is based on the Satoyama Initiative and rural life. The Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government names it as ‘The Satoyama Lantern Area’ and it is full of Taichung’s characteristics. The Satoyama area integrates the spirit of the Satoyama Initiative and presents industrial, ecological, cultural, environmental, and biological diversity. Furthermore, it also shows that Taichung places a high value on our environment and agricultural development.
The design concept of ‘The Satoyama Lantern Area’ is story telling. The story is about a village which is called Satoyama. The people of the village, the animals, and the plants experience four seasons and different agricultural activities together. It shows sustainability and people living in harmony with nature.
The Satoyama Lantern Area is divided into six major lantern zones. The Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government invites many famous designers from both home and overseas to collaborate with local residents. Specifically, Wendy Teo, a UK ARB/RIBA Chartered Architect who is the founder of Borneo Laboratory; Cheng-Tsung Feng, a Bamboo craft art designer, who has won the Red Dot Award: Design Concept and the A’ Design Award; Ling Li Tseng, an artist who has won the X-site award. These artists are some of the artists who have been invited.
The Satoyama Lantern Area will be located in Forest Expo Site next year from Feb, 8th to 23th. In addition, a stunning laser light show will be displayed at The Satoyama Lantern Area during The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the beauty of the Lantern Festival, the director of the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government, Ching-chiang Tsai said.
