The National Taichung Theater (NTT) launched the NTT Screening Room Program in February to play videos of many kinds of International performing arts. This program has earned recognition from citizens and appealed to nearly 1500 people to join this program. “Theater is more than just theater; it is a way of life.” says Ms. Joyce Chiou, Executive and Artistic director of NTT. NTT has been expanding the program since May and has added sessions of outdoor theater. This program really helps to shine a light on the people who appreciate arts, meanwhile, people who have already seen these performances can recall their memories back by watching these videos.
From May to July, NTT Screening Room Program will play the performance videos of Comedians Workshop series; the Ping-Fong Acting Troupe series will be played from August to October; Performance Workshop series will be played from November to January. The Ping-Fong Acting Troupe’s founder, Hugh Lee (李國修), passed away in July six years ago. In order to commemorate Hugh Lee, NTT especially plays Theatrical Enlightenment : A Documentary of Ping-Fong Acting for free (this has a limit of 700 people). Ping-Fong’s program director, Moon Wang (王月) will launch the “summer romance” trilogy, including Mr. Right Wanted, Extra-Marital Correspondence, and The Aurora Borealis from August to October. This trilogy was produced, directed, and played by Hugh Lee (李國修) himself, therefore, the audience can see and feel how consummate his acting skills are.
“The integrated design of outdoor theater is excellent. NTT will increase the usage rate of outdoor theater to make the audience have a distinctive experience.” says Mr. Lee Zhong-jun, Associate Artistic director of NTT. For the sake of enhancing the quality of outdoor theater and not to disturb residents living nearby, NTT uses a high lumen projector and outdoor sound field effects. NTT also offers mosquito repellent since this program takes place at the outdoor theater. The plan of setting up some light food and beverage stands is still under discussion.
NTT hopes to promote arts more widely to Taichung citizens through this special program. There will be at least one performing arts’ video played every month in the future. No matter who you are, NTT Screening Room Program will always welcome you to join and experience arts together.
