The Department of Business Administration (BA) at Hsiuping University of Science and Technology (HUST) has once again demonstrated its commitment to public service through actions. On May 8th, a delegation of 10 faculty members and students led by Yu-Hua Lin, Executive Director of the Small and Medium Enterprise Service and Startup Administration, and accompanied by Yu-Ching Huang, Director of the General Education Center. travelled to the Kinmen Fund for Children and Families (KFCF) for a three-day charitable service and exchange program. Through donations, community service, and inter-university engagement, the team extended care and support to underprivileged children and families in the outlying island region, embodying the spirit of University Social Responsibility (USR).

The charitable initiative was student-driven from the start. Members of the BA Student Association organized a campus fundraising campaign, raising NT$12,345 through charity sales and public awareness activities. Faculty and students personally delivered the funds and supplies to the KFCF. The delegation also presented tools donated by DAIKEN Tools Enterprise Co., Ltd., as well as red quinoa sweet potato crisps contributed by Hearty Farm, bringing the warmth and generosity of various sectors of society to the outlying island community.

Upon arrival, the HUST delegation made the KFCF their first stop, where Director Yi-Fan Hung received the donations on behalf of the center. Hung expressed sincere appreciation, noting that this marks the second visit by HUST faculty and students since their first trip two years ago. “Their willingness to cross the strait once again not only lets the children feel the warmth of society, but also demonstrates the passion and drive of young students who remain dedicated to public service,” she said.

Beyond the charitable donation, the faculty and students also visited the College of Management at National Quemoy University for an interschool exchange, broadening students’ horizons and fostering cross-regional communication among the younger generation.

The delegation further participated in community service at the Guanli Community Care Association, assisting with parent-child activities, coastal clean-up efforts, and community outreach programs. Through hands-on involvement, the team gained a deeper understanding of local needs while contributing to community care and environmental preservation.

Reflecting on the trip, Executive Director Yu-Hua Lin emphasized the broader educational value of the experience. “We hope that through public service and direct participation, students can cultivate a sense of social responsibility and a spirit of service beyond what the classroom can offer,” she said.

Lin added that Kinmen was deliberately chosen as this year’s service destination to not only continue the bond of goodwill with the KFCF, but also to give first-year students a hands-on experience of what public service truly means. In order that love and compassion can be passed on from one generation of students to the next.
