Since October 1st, all cafeterias and Taiwanese bento stores are requested to set up a recycling area for paper containers. Furthermore, a recycling symbol and garbage classification should be clearly marked to allow people to separate garbage properly. The Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government announced that violators will be fined up to NT$ 300,000 based on the Waste Disposal Act.
305 cafeterias and Taiwanese bento stores in Taichung have completed the installation of paper containers recycling areas as requested. The Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government rewards these stores for complying with the rule by making them members of the Paper Container Recycling-friendly league on the contrary, offenders bear the consequence of being fined between NT$ 60,000 to NT$ 300,000.
After having meals in a cafeteria or a Taiwanese bento store, people should remember to sort waste correctly and follow the three recycling steps (separating, and piling up) for paper containers. In addition, paper containers should not be mixed up with paper or trash since they are coated with polyethylene (PE.)
As environmental awareness rises, the concept of bringing your own containers is now becoming more and more familiar to people. The Taichung Government encourages local stores to offer discounts and bonuses to customers who bring a reusable cup or tableware. Citizens should form a habit of reusing and bringing their own utensils and cups. Meanwhile, people should reduce the use of disposable products in their daily life.
