Hsiuping University of Science and Technology Shines at Archimedes International Invention Exhibition

Hsiuping University of Science and Technology recently demonstrated its outstanding innovation and global visibility at the XXVII Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies, “Archimedes.” The prestigious event featured over 500 innovative projects from 26 countries, showcasing fierce international competition. Hsiuping University excelled on the global stage, winning three gold medals, one silver, and the Special Award from Russia, underscoring its dedication to technical and vocational education and its capacity for internationally recognized innovation.

Among the award-winning projects was “License Plate Number Recognition Using Neural Network Methods,” which secured both a gold medal and the Special Award from Russia. This project was developed by Zheng Yu-Qian from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Li Hong-Yi from the Department of Electronic Engineering, under the guidance of Professors Tu Hsin-Nan and Chia Yen-Jui. Combining FPGA and DSP technologies, the system employs neural networks to achieve highly efficient license plate recognition with impressive intelligent recognition and real-time processing capabilities.

The second gold medal-winning project, “Development of a Power Generation Module for a Non-Powered Autonomous Vehicle,” was led by Chen Wen-Ming from the Master’s Program in Lean Production Management, under the supervision of Professors Lai Po-Yen, Wu Chia-Hung, and Lin Chia-Yung from the Department of Industrial Management. The team used the Karakuri mechanism to design an autonomous vehicle capable of self-propulsion and power generation without external energy sources. Its internal gear mechanism enables synchronous power generation, advancing green production and energy-saving transportation goals.

The third gold medal project, “Lighting Control System Using Sound Source Localization,” was created by Department of Electrical Engineering students Chen Hong-Yu, Liao Yong-Xiang, and Zhang Rui-Chen, supervised by Professors Chia Yen-Ju and Xu Geng-Zhen. This system enhances public space safety and energy efficiency by adjusting lighting direction and brightness through sound source recognition, exemplifying an innovative application of intelligent lighting technology.

In addition, Professor Hong Zhi-Qiang from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received a silver medal for his project, “Electronically Controlled Oscillating Permanent Magnet Motor Fan Device.” This design integrates an oscillating mechanism with permanent magnet drive principles to enhance motor energy efficiency and green technology applications, reflecting Hsiuping University’s expertise in sustainable energy solutions.

President Chen Mei-Ching praised the award-winning teams, highlighting their creativity, teamwork, and innovative spirit. She reaffirmed the university’s strong foundation in technical and vocational education and its hands-on, practice-oriented approach to teaching. Looking ahead, Hsiuping University will continue to promote interdisciplinary education and strengthen collaborations between academia and industry, nurturing more internationally competitive talent and forging a path toward sustainable innovation.
