Su Wan-Yun from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Hsiuping University of Science and Technology (HUST) recently received multiple accolades in national bartending competitions, as students from the department continue to demonstrate outstanding performance in hospitality and culinary contests.

Under the guidance of Professor Huang Shu-Min from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, student Su Wan-Yun delivered an impressive performance across several prestigious competitions in May 2026. On May 12th, she won a silver medal in the Traditional Bartending Category at the Chinese Olympic Cup International Beauty Exchange Competition and Culinary & Cultural Creative Arts Aesthetics. Just two days later, on May 14th, she received an Excellence Award in the Traditional Bartending Category at the 4th Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Cup National Student Bartending Competition, hosted by Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc.

Professor Huang Shu-Min noted that bartending competitions test far more than beverage-mixing techniques and creativity. Contestants are also evaluated on stage presence, consistency, composure, and their ability to control the pace of live presentations. She explained that Su devoted extensive time to repeated practice, refining everything from drink recipes and movement details to on-stage procedures to deliver her best performance in front of the judges. Huang added that receiving recognition in multiple competitions within a short period reflects both the student’s dedication and the effectiveness of the department’s professional training.

Su had already gained recognition last year at the 24th Golden Baron International Culinary and Tourism Competition. Her creation, Sea Salt Starlight, earned a gold medal in the MONIN CUP Non-Alcoholic Creative Beverage Category. She also received a bronze medal in the Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Traditional Bartending Category for College and Professional Division with her work Purple Dream in Trendy Shadows, securing dual honors in the competition.

Li Shu-Mei, Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, stated that the department is committed to both professional skills and practical training. In addition to strengthening students’ foundations through courses, the department actively encourages participation in competitions and professional exchange activities to help students gain hands-on experience, improve adaptability, and build confidence. She added that the student’s continued success in national competitions highlights the department’s achievements in cultivating hospitality and culinary talent.
