Wan Pei Lin/ Taichung
Taiwanese opera legend Liao Chiung-Chih is going to perform her life story with the National Chinese Orchestra at National Taichung Theater on December 2nd. Originally, LIAO announced her retirement in 2008; but she attended the opening season performances of National Taichung Theater last year. This time LIAO will collaborate with NCO and perform her life history; she has indicated that, despite her age, she can sing powerfully and naturally when she hears the music. This demonstrates her passion and commitment to Taiwanese opera.
In 2008, LIAO performed this opera at the National Theater. Ten years later, she is going to bring this performance back to the stage again. This time it combines Chinese Orchestra, Taiwanese opera and dance. This interdisciplinary performance will portray LIAO’s life of performing as the “tragic female lead”. She will perform the opera without wearing a Taiwanese opera costume and has said that, she was able to immerse herself more completely in spite of this. The opera reproduces the atmosphere of the era and the different stages of her life.
Recently, the National Chinese Orchestra has attempted to spread the concept of using Chinese Orchestra to tell the most beautiful stories in Taiwan. The performance of this legendary Taiwanese opera actress’ life is one of the masterpieces that have been created using this idea. The National Taichung Theater welcomes all people to come and appreciate the fascination of Taiwanese opera and the legend of this wonderful actress.
