Peony Pavilion-Young Lovers’ Edition is one of the most famous Kunqu operas which has been performed over three hundred times around the world is coming to Taiwan in April for the first time in fourteen years. Including literature, drama, beautiful paintings and wonderful dancing, Peony Pavilion-Young Lovers’ Edition is a poetic musical about love, death and resurrection. It is said to be the most well-known Kunqu production of the 21st century and it is expected to attract young people to learn more about this traditional culture.
Producer Kenneth Pai (Pai Hsien-yung) indicates that it is meaningful to come to Taichung this time because the Kunqu opera has blossomed over the last fourteen years. Their personal mission is to protect this traditional culture and continue this beautiful art by adding new elements. This includes training more young performers in the hope of attracting young audiences, thereby presenting a new perspective on this classic of the Chinese opera world.
Producer Wang from National Taichung Theater says that Kunqu is an art in which the performers move majestically and speak through song. She hopes everyone has the chance to come and enjoy this beautiful cultural treasure at the National Taichung Theater.
